It’s late Sunday night so I need to keep this very brief. Luckily, London’s Slugabed should need no introduction – he’s been turning out his unique glitchy gutter beats for a while now and has gathered quite a following. We just wanted to let you know (if you didn’t already!) that he will be giving away a free unreleased tune every Monday from now up until xmas.
Back in September we featured Tony Mundaca’s Moombahsoul track ‘On The Radio‘ as our Catch Of The Week. Well he’s back in the hot-seat again, this time under his Footwork moniker MoonDoctoR.

Tonight sees the first part of an interesting two day event collaboration between Compass and The Motorcycle Show Room in Stokes Croft, Bristol. It features Audio Visual performances, interactivity and installations from some of the West Country’s finest live visual-media talents including Lumen and Dub Bait favourites Prymedia. The fantastic guys over at Kino 10 throw another intriguing Sunday short film night not to be missed! This time they are rolling with the ever more popular theme of East Asian short films, including an original live Narrative set to a silent film, as well as an improvised performance over classic silent Japanese anime by the musical ensemble Mute. It’s been a while since a great tune has come along without an accompanying stream of self-promotion, but we really can’t tell you anything about Adulterer. This track appeared two weeks ago with almost zero web presence – few Soundcloud followers and no Facebook likes. Eerie eh? Whatever the deal is (talented newcomer? established producer under a new name?) we think ‘Vicious Truths’ is superb!

This weeks catch comes from a big Dub Bait favourite and master music blender Smutlee. Possibly the most well known UK Moombahton pioneer, Smutlee has gained a large following in recent years for his unique mash ups, edits and blends of massive Dancehall tunes under the unstoppable Moombahton concept.

We can think of no better way to mark the recent departure of Berlusconi than with yesterday’s release of the aptly titled BEAT.IT, a superb new compilation from Italy. BEAT.IT: This Is Not A Revival brings together sixteen producers from the Italian underground in a glitch-laden collection of tracks ranging, as they put it, “from funk to abstract”.
Now here’s a little something guaranteed to get you in the mood for the weekend ahead. Already established as a force for quality and experimentation within the world of UK Funky, West London’s Greenmoney (Leo Greenslade – main man at London’s YoYo club, and Alex Phountzi – formerly of Bugz In The Attic) shine not only as label bosses, but also as DJ’s and producers in their own right. This mix – their recent contribution to the outstanding Mixpak FM series – is made up almost exclusively of forthcoming releases from Greenmoney Recordings, including all 3 tracks from their own awesome Dubs Vol.2 due out in December. So if you aren’t already familiar with the label (or even if you are!) this makes for essential listening.
London’s Jack Dixon is quickly cutting a house-fuelled path of his own through the current mushrooming mish-mash of UK Electronica, and has already exchanged remix duties with artists such as DFRNT, Sepalcure, Damu and Nguzunguzu.
