Montreal Footworker Hesk’s latest offering is a hefty slice of raw, booming 160bpm class.
Hesk has been a favourite of ours for a while now, turning out a steady stream of awesome originals and remixes, as well as some great collaborations with fellow Montreal resident Paveun, such as the stunning ‘MTL to LA’ which featured on World Wide Juke Vol.2. His tracks just keep getting better, and ‘New York Girl’ had rewind after rewind when we first heard it.
Centred around a vocal sample from Nas’ ‘The Don’ (which was itself originally sampled from Super Cat’s ‘Dance Inna New York’) – chopped, looped and re-pitched to perfection – ‘New York Girl’ also stays true to the huge bass thump of Nas’ track. Hesk has done a brilliant job of building a solid flow of propulsive drum work before repeatedly stripping everything back to let the bass do the talking. Big!
