Jack Dixon – 1EP (Three fine gifts for Christmas)

With all the confusion brought on by the festive season it seems we let a few important releases pass us by.  As one of our early COTW’s Jack Dixon has always been a prominent name on our radar and with a string of solid releases on many of the important House music labels of 2012/13, any free offerings from this young man are gratefully received.

Seapoint’s ‘Nautical Day’ Out Now On B.YRSLF

Hot on the heels of Bombé‘s excellent freebie ‘Eclipse‘, B.YRSLF Division have released the latest EP to join their increasingly formidable back catalogue.  Out yesterday, ‘Nautical Day’ by Seapoint is an engaging blend of Hip-Hop, Dubstep and House aesthetics all woven together by some inspired drum programming and insanely catchy vocal hooks.

WIZRD Collective

It was via a collection of crisp House remixes from French producer Dehousy that we first stumbled across the WIZRD Collective late last year, and since then they’ve put out a steady trickle of great tracks – House and otherwise – in the process forming a clear but unblinkered style and ethos.  Centred around trappy, swaggy, drum-led sounds that never take themselves too seriously – from the tongue-in-cheek Hip-Hop of Miami’s Metro Zu to the sleazy percussive workouts of Melbourne’s Lucid - it seems that the key ingredient for the wizrd collective is the fun!

Catch Of The Week – Diurne (Koloah Remix)

Our Catch this week comes from a producer who’s quickly gone from popping up on the radar every so often to being a massive, flashing bleeping dot, slap bang in the middle of the radar!  Based out of Kiev, Koloah brings a diverse and well crafted arsenal of styles, with tracks ranging from House through to Glitch-Hop via a healthy but unique nod to the current wave of global Bass/Garage/R n’B sounds.

Admin – Formattin’ EP

Ok we’ve been meaning to point you in the direction of this one ever since we first heard the preview a couple of weeks ago.  With the EP now available via Juno this week (and everywhere else on 20th March) it’s high time we sung it’s praises!

Jack to Juke to Celluloid

You know when you’ve got an hour to kill and you end up spending it watching videos of cats/people/people and cats together/babies (no, they don’t count as people yet!) doing stupid things? Well, carry on – because this film is more than just a way to pass a few vacant minutes – you need to make time for this one!

Catch Of The Week – ‘One For’

Following the madness of last week’s 3vybz remix from Skanky we wind things back a notch for our latest Catch, as we get swept up in a plush house track from a guy who could yet prove to be Sheffield’s answer to Ramadanman, promising newcomer Arshaw.

Playing Away and On Repeat – Adulterer

It’s been a while since a great tune has come along without an accompanying stream of self-promotion, but we really can’t tell you anything about Adulterer.  This track appeared two weeks ago with almost zero web presence – few Soundcloud followers and no Facebook likes.  Eerie eh?  Whatever the deal is (talented newcomer? established producer under a new name?) we think ‘Vicious Truths’ is superb!

Catch Of The Week – ‘Clear (Original Mix)’

London’s Jack Dixon is quickly cutting a house-fuelled path of his own through the current mushrooming mish-mash of UK Electronica, and has already exchanged remix duties with artists such as DFRNT, Sepalcure, Damu and Nguzunguzu.

Mp3 Giveaway Pt 1

I don’t know what it is about this week but it seems to be overflowing with great new tunes – maybe the clocks going back has meant we’ve spent more time indoors listening to music, or maybe it’s meant producers have spent more time indoors finishing and sharing tracks?!  Whatever the reason, choosing Monday’s Catch Of the Week was the toughest yet.  So, faced with such a glut of fresh tunes, we thought we’d share those that almost made Catch (plus a few others that have caught our ear this week!)
